During daytime performances, the most devout Dickies loyalists will have the chance to jump the legendary Lustre Pearl lines by donning their tried and true favorite Dickies looks. Dickies designers and fashion guru Joah Spearman will be onsite and surfing the crowd for the best Dickies ensembles. Those lucky few selected will be eligible for various perks, be it jumping ahead in line, walking away with new Dickies gear, being interviewed for media content or other exclusives. And everyone at the venue will be able to take advantage of onsite poster printings and a taco truck.
Joah Spearman, co-founder and executive producer of SXSW's Style X and Huffington Post style contributor, will also be capturing the trends and behind-the-scenes action of Lustre Pearl on Dickies' Facebook and Twitter feeds during the day. Even fans unable to attend in person can keep up through live updates. Spearman may also be found on Twitter @joahspearman.
"My friends opened Lustre Pearl a few years ago; I've attended Dickies showcases here for years and they always put on amazing shows," says Spearman. "I'm extremely excited to see some stylish music fans at Lustre Pearl and experience Dickies' authentic connection with and ongoing commitment to music firsthand."
Dickies is expanding its festival presence this year by participating in Style X, the official fashion discovery showcase of SXSW. Several music-inspired Dickies looks will be featured in Style X runway shows, where emerging musicians will walk the runway on March 16 and 17 at 6:30 p.m. each day. Those who can't make the shows can peruse Style X's official look book – available in early March - for the "Dickies SXSW Style Guide," highlighting key pieces from the Dickies 1922 collection and core work wear embraced by tastemakers.
"Dickies is proud to support up-and-coming musicians because they embody so much of our own brand identity; they're hard working, authentic and independent," said Matthew McCartin, vice president of marketing for Dickies. "There's no better place than South by Southwest for such an in-depth look at the future of music."
Dickies has been intrinsically linked to music for decades across a variety of genres. The brand markets to musicians and consumers alike via participation in events like SXSW, supporting musicians on tour and hosting emerging musicians at FILTER's L.A. offices with impromptu performances and artist gifting.
"Musicians have naturally gravitated to Dickies for years because the brand meets their needs for authentic, uncomplicated style whether they're working on the stage or off," said Alan Miller, Co-Founder and Co-Owner of FILTER Creative Group. "The Dickies showcase at Lustre Pearl has quickly evolved into a signature event of SXSW, highlighting musicians on the brink of a pulsating career."
Lustre Pearl is located at 97 Rainey Street in Austin, just south of 1st Street and the convention center. Festival badges are required for access to nighttime performances, and limited RSVPs for daytime performances are available at www.filtermagazine.com/dickies2012.
