Dickies Partners With AAFES to Launch Annual American Hero of the Year Contest
Consumers Invited to Nominate the Country's Finest for the Chance to Win $25,000
FORT WORTH, Texas, June 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dickies, the world's leading provider of authentic work apparel, along with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) announce the launch of the fourth annual Dickies American Hero of the Year Contest*. The contest, currently accepting entries through July 18, is a global promotion that seeks to honor one of the nation's many service men and women with a $25,000 cash prize for demonstrating what it means to truly be an American hero.
Whether currently deployed, supporting active duty personnel, retired military, or providing family support back home, nominees are encouraged to tell their story of inspiration and answer the question, "What does it mean to be an American hero?" Similar to the 2014 winner, a 12-year veteran and mother of seven Senior Airman Veronica Lemus, this year's winning nominee will be awarded $25,000. Four finalists will also receive prizes of $1,000 each. Nominations may be submitted for yourself or on behalf of someone you know.
"Working alongside the Exchange to host the annual American Hero contest is our way of showing appreciation year after year for those who have dedicated their lives to serving our country," said Brent Streit, Vice President of Marketing for Dickies. "After listening to the stories of inspiration, we're thrilled to have the opportunity to demonstrate our support."
Submissions can be in the form of a video, photo and essay, or essay submission and will be judged on entry composition, entry sincerity and how well the nominee represents the American Hero. The entry period began on June 1 and runs through July 18, 2015. Fifteen finalist entries will be selected on July 27, 2015, while the Grand Prize Winner and Runners-Up will be selected on August 7, 2015. The winners will be displayed on the American Hero of the Year website on September 1, 2015.
"We couldn't imagine a more natural fit for us than working with Dickies to host the American Heroes contest, as it falls so closely in line with our mission of giving back to the military community," said AAFES COO Mike Howard. "It's the least we can do to provide a bit of relief and support for those service men and women who have dedicated their lives to defending ours."
