Día De Los Niños / Día De Los Libros Returns To San Francisco On April 24 To Promote Importance Of Children's Literacy

WHAT                        

The 17^th annual Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros is a free event for families throughout San Francisco featuring literacy-related arts and crafts activities, storytelling, music, dance and theater performances. Multilingual books will be distributed and families can sign up for library cards and check out books from the San Francisco Public Library bookmobile.

Parque Ninos Unidos, 23^rd and Treat Streets, San Francisco

WHY                          

Research shows a relationship between reading and the academic growth and the development of children, including healthy brain development, healthy relationships, social competence, cognitive development, communication skills, vocabulary growth and the literacy skills critical for success in school and life.

ABOUT                      

Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros (Children's Day/Book Day) is celebrated annually across the country to advocate the importance of literacy for children of all cultural backgrounds. The San Francisco event was started by Mission Learning Center in 1999. Since 2012, it has been led by the San Francisco Public Library and the city's Early Literacy Network. Thousands of Bay Area children and their parents have benefitted from this annual citywide event.
