Some key highlights from the 2016 Career Satisfaction Survey include:
- 51% of respondents believe management does not understand their career goals.
- 85% of tax professionals surveyed would be motivated to leave their jobs because of perceived lack of career goal understanding or lack of support to achieve their goals.
- 90% of those who lack confidence in leadership feel they do not receive the appropriate level of mentoring and support.
According to Tony Santiago, President of TaxTalent and TaxSearch the data provides insight on some of the root causes that affect both talent attraction and retention of tax professionals at the staff to manager level. "This years' results are in line with what we are experiencing," says Santiago. "We find it much more difficult to recruit top tax professionals from their current employer if their Tax Department understands their career goals and makes time to help them achieve their goals."
Santiago believes career growth and development should be a joint responsibility of both the tax professional and employer. In addition to the survey data, the report offers free tips and recommendations to tax professionals and employers to enhance the career development process.
