In this role, Shaw will work with the teams serving Deloitte's insurance clients, as well as functional and regional sector leaders, to coordinate the organization's insurance sector strategy and help ensure a consistently high level of client service excellence. Shaw has held a number of leadership roles in the U.S. firms, including northeast insurance regional sector leader and was a member of the National Insurance Management Committee.
"Gary has already played a key role in the insurance sector with his leadership of two of our largest global insurance clients," commented Bob Contri, vice chairman and U.S. financial services leader, Deloitte LLP. "We are delighted that he has accepted this new assignment, and know that his extensive client experience coupled with his leadership skills make him a perfect fit for our financial services industry leadership team."
In his 25 year career at Deloitte, Shaw, a partner in Deloitte & Touche LLP, has focused on complex assignments for some of Deloitte's largest financial sector clients, including transforming the finance function and upgrading enterprise risk and internal control capabilities. His background spans significant global client relationships advising more than a dozen insurance companies.
Shaw holds a bachelor of science in business administration from Bucknell University with a concentration in management information systems. He serves on the audit committee of the Newark Museum and has served as secretary and treasurer of the Metro New York/New Jersey chapter of the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and New York and New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is a frequent presenter and author on insurance industry trends and financial management and reporting topics.
Rebecca Amoroso, who served as national sector leader for insurance for seven years, will retire from Deloitte in June. Under her leadership, the sector enjoyed significant revenue growth and became established as a leading source of authoritative industry analysis and commentary. Amoroso was honored as Insurance Woman of the Year in 2008 by the Association of Professional Insurance Women and profiled that year by Business Insurance as a "Woman to Watch."
