Wireless communication specialist AT4 wireless in Spain taken over
The international expert organisation DEKRA is taking over the testing company AT4 wireless in Málaga, Spain. A contract to this effect was signed on June 29, 2015. With this, DEKRA is completing its range of testing services for wireless communication and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). DEKRA is thereby securing key expertise for the future trends Industry 4.0 and Automotive 4.0.
Headquartered in Málaga, AT4 wireless has a workforce of 285 employees and has laboratories in Spain, Chile, USA and Taiwan. The Andalusian company offers testing and approval services to telecommunication device manufacturers with a focus on wireless, interoperability and conformity testing. In addition, AT4 wireless offers global services for network operators, such as the device acceptance, field testing and interoperability.
"With this acquisition, DEKRA is preparing itself for the challenges of the Internet of Things," says Stefan Kölbl, Chairman of the Management Board of DEKRA e.V. and DEKRA SE. "Vehicles, machines and consumer goods are increasingly connected and communicating by means of wireless transmission methods, of which the safety, performance and security must be ensured. The growth in expertise thanks to AT4 wireless constitutes a major step for DEKRA on our way to becoming a global partner for a safer world."
DEKRA is systematically expanding the portfolio of the Service Unit Product Testing and Certification. This is already the third transaction this year in the field of product testing, strengthening its position as service provider to the consumer and automotive electronics industries. In February DEKRA has acquired the EMC service provider QuieTek in Taiwan. In May, the Joint Venture DEKRA iST, also based in Taiwan, was announced. This company focuses on reliability testing and failure analysis.
"With AT4 wireless, DEKRA is becoming a full service provider and can support customers in diverse industry sectors throughout their value chain," says Ivo Rauh, member of the DEKRA SE Management Board and Head of the DEKRA industrial business unit. "The focus here is on the IT, telecommunication and electronic industries, with special focus on the automotive sector, for which we now also offer testing expertise for vehicle connectivity and automated driving systems."
"As a member of the DEKRA family, AT4 wireless with its highly qualified employees is in a perfect position to continue along its successful path," emphasises Bert Zoetbrood, head of the DEKRA Service Unit Product Testing and Certification. "Thanks to the strong international presence of AT4 wireless, we see numerous opportunities to further expand business and strengthen our relationship with major customers from the telecommunication and automotive industries by means of synergies with other DEKRA companies."
