WEST DES MOINES, Iowa, March 5, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two decorated veterans, Afghanistan Special Forces Commander Lt. Colonel Michael Waltz and Vietnam pilot and prisoner-of-war Lt. Colonel Tom Hanton (Ret.), call out Donald Trump for having "essentially dodged the draft," "serving only himself" and his "infuriating comment" that POWs were "losers" in the latest TV ad released by American Future Fund.
Col. Waltz, awarded four Bronze Stars for commanding reserve units in multiple tours in Afghanistan and the Middle East, charges in 30- and 60-second ads that Trump "hasn't served his country a day in his life" and that he "essentially dodged the draft" by pursuing multiple deferments.
Waltz mocks Trump's claims likening his boarding school experiences to serving in the military and says he "has hidden behind the laws of our nation in terms of bankruptcy," "hidden behind veterans organizations" and "certainly not stepped…forward in terms of personal sacrifice to serve this country," concluding that he "has only served himself".
Col. Hanton, who courageously flew 135 combat missions before being forced to eject from his plane, being marched for two days and spending 13 months in the notorious Hanoi Hilton, observes that Trump "would not have survived the POW experience – he would have been probably the first one to fold." Col. Hanton, decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Prisoner-of-War medal, labels the candidate a "phony" and calls upon voters to "learn about Donald Trump – he is not what he appears to be."
The two war heroes demand that voters "stop (Trump) now."
Trump, who has told the media that he used student deferments and a medical deferment to avoid joining the army during the Vietnam War, said of John McCain at an event last year in Iowa that "I like people who weren't captured" and "I don't like losers."
Stuart Roy, spokesman for the American Future Fund, stated, "It's unthinkable we could have as Commander-in-Chief someone who avoided the draft and then insulted our bravest American heroes as 'losers' for having been captured in the line of duty. The more people know about Donald Trump, the more they understand that honor and Trump are not synonyms."
