DECISIVE ANALYTICS Corporation Employee Owners Issued Patent for Method and Apparatus for Analyzing and Interrelating Data

ARLINGTON, Va., May 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- DECISIVE ANALYTICS Corporation Vice President of Analytic Technologies, Dr. Jim Nolan, along with additional inventor Mark Frymire, were issued a patent for their invention titled "Method and Apparatus for Analyzing and Interrelating Data". The patent application process was started in February 2009 and was issued in February 2013.

In essence, the invention automatically constructs a pertinent intelligence product for decision makers. The method for automatically organizing data embodies several capabilities, including retrieving, correcting, storing, querying, and identifying topics in the data.

Nolan says "the most important capability we have developed is the Statistical Topic Modeling (STM) capability which automatically organizes documents based on topics discovered in the text." As the method automatically organizes data into topics, it uses a computer-based algorithm to identify topics which are emerging, increasing, or declining and determines roles and relationships between the data.

Nolan reports that on any given day, up to 80% of his technical staff uses the STM capability. The computer system that implements the method includes electronic data input, a temporary storage medium, a query language tool, and a program including an algorithm based on statistical probability.

The invention creates many advantages for the intelligence community: ability to deal with vast quantities of data, prevention of security threats, distinguishing data based on level of threat, identifying the probability of future events, and ability for quick analysis of both classified and open source data.
