ITASCA, Ill., Feb. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "Every 4 minutes, someone in the United States dies from an injury that is completely preventable. We now lose more people each year as a result of preventable injuries than from strokes. Every day modern science and medicine are finding ways to extend our lives, but today we must commit to ending "accidents" that are completely preventable.
"Safety affects everyone, everywhere, and the National Safety Council wants to drive forward fresh discussions that will raise the level of collective safety consciousness. That is why we are launching our 'Safety First' blog – to help Americans understand the true threats to their safety and what they can do to keep themselves and those they love safer.
"After decades involved in safety investigations, oversight and policy, my experiences inform my passion and purpose and will be featured in posts. The blog will explore the leading causes of preventable death in America including prescription painkiller overdoses, car crashes and falls. We will also invite some of today's most decorated safety champions and subject matter experts, both here at the Council and around the country, to contribute their voices and share their wisdom.
"You can subscribe to the blog at nsc.org, and you can follow me on Twitter @DebbieHersman. Join us in the discussion and our journey to eliminate preventable deaths in our lifetime."
