NEWARK, N.J., June 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- PSE&G is reminding its customers that Monday, June 30, is the deadline to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
The LIHEAP program helps pay heating costs and, in some circumstances, medically necessary cooling expenses. PSE&G customers who meet the guidelines for LIHEAP typically receive about $300 toward their PSE&G bill. The deadline to apply was extended this year from April 30 to June 30.
"Winter is behind us, but it's not too late for low-income households to apply to LIHEAP," said Joseph A. Forline, PSE&G's vice president for customer solutions. "Thanks to the deadline extension, there's still time for families to take advantage of this important program."
Eligibility is based on household size and the last month of household gross income. Renters may qualify, even if the heat is included in their rent. The chart below provides income eligibility information.
Income Limits for LIHEAP |
|
Monthly Gross Household Size Income 1 $1,915 2 $2,585 3 $3,255 4 $3,925 5 $4,595 6 $5,265 |
Monthly Gross Household Size Income 7 $5,935 8 $6,605 9 $7,275 10 $7,478 11 $7,634 12 $7,789 |
To determine eligibility for household sizes greater than 12, add $156 for each additional member. |
PSE&G heating customers that already have received LIHEAP this winter season and are behind with winter heating bills may be eligible for additional assistance through the LIHEAP emergency assistance program. The deadline for emergency assistance is also June 30.
LIHEAP applications are available at all PSE&G's 16 walk-in Customer Service Centers listed on customers' bills. Completed applications are accepted by local agencies in your county, and should include copies of all required documentation. For more information or to locate your nearest application agency, visit www.pseg.com/help or call 1-800-510-3102.
Customers who apply for LIHEAP are automatically screened for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities' Universal Service Fund (USF). This program can lower the amount you have to pay for your gas and electric bills. USF applications are accepted all year.
PSE&G households that are not eligible for low income programs and are behind in their PSE&G bill should visit www.pseg.com/help to learn about other moderate income programs, including the TRUE grant, PAGE program and NJ SHARES. Seniors and disabled adults collecting Social Security Disability may be eligible for the New Jersey Lifeline Credit program. These programs accept applications all year.
