David Topper, former J. P. Morgan Vice Chairman, Named Special Advisor to Global Growth Investor, General Atlantic
GREENWICH, Conn., Jan. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- General Atlantic LLC (GA), a leading global growth equity firm, today announced that David Topper, a former Vice Chairman of J. P. Morgan and leader in its capital markets group, has become a Special Advisor to the firm. Mr. Topper has nearly 30 years of capital markets and investment banking experience. He will be working closely with GA's portfolio group as well as GA's portfolio company management teams on specific projects.

Most recently, David Topper was with J. P. Morgan where he joined in 2005 as Co-Head of Equity Capital Markets (ECM). He was Chairman of ECM, Vice Chairman of Investment Banking and Chairman of the Commitments Committee. During his time at J. P. Morgan, David led many of the firm's major advisory and capital raising transactions in the financial institutions, healthcare, media and other sectors.
Prior to joining J. P. Morgan, David spent 22 years at Morgan Stanley where he served as Co-Head of U.S. Equity Capital Markets, Managing Director and Chairman of the Equity Commitment Committee from 2001-2005. Prior to that, David was responsible for equity capital markets coverage of the Media and Telecom and Financial Sponsor sectors. Before joining Equity Capital Markets, he held leadership positions in debt capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and high yield finance.
David serves on the Board of the Duke University Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Museum of New York, the Advisory Board of Common Sense Media and the Board of Directors of the Adams Memorial Foundation. He holds a B.A. from Duke University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.
