MONMOUTH JUNCTION, N.J., Nov. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- CytoSorbents Corporation (NASDAQ: CTSO) announced that at last evening's awards ceremony, it ranked 7th amongst 21 medical device companies, and 297th overall in any industry on Deloitte's 2017 Technology Fast 500™, a ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, healthcare and life sciences, and energy tech companies in North America. The company's revenues grew by 293% in the three-year period from 2013 to 2016.
CytoSorbents' Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Phillip Chan, credits global demand for its patented CytoSorb® blood purification technology that helps control severe inflammation—alongside its direct sales force and a growing roster of independent distributors and strategic partners, including some of the world's leading healthcare companies—for its revenue growth.
"Severe, uncontrolled inflammation is deadly, particularly in critical illnesses like sepsis that kills someone in the world every 3 to 4 seconds despite the use of antibiotics," Dr. Chan said. "It is also the common thread contributing to organ failure and death in nearly one-third of patients with a wide range of life-threatening conditions such as severe trauma, burn injury, surgical complications, liver failure, lung failure, pancreatitis, cytokine release syndrome, and many others."
Dr. Chan continued, "Better therapies are needed to improve patient outcomes and to stem the massive costs of ICU care. By reducing excessive inflammatory toxins from a patient's bloodstream, our flagship product CytoSorb® is helping to safely bring deadly inflammation under control, contributing to greater patient stability, less severe disease, and better clinical outcomes in these patients. CytoSorb® is now distributed throughout most of the European Union, and in a total of 44 countries worldwide. As CytoSorbents drives to operating profitability, expected in 2018, it is also pursuing U.S. approval with the expected initiation of its pivotal, registration trial in complex cardiac surgery by the end of this year."
"The Deloitte 2017 North America Technology Fast 500 winners underscore the impact of technological innovation and world class customer service in driving growth, in a fiercely competitive environment," said Sandra Shirai, vice chairman, Deloitte Consulting LLP and U.S. technology, media and telecommunications leader. "These companies are on the cutting edge and are transforming the way we do business. We extend our sincere congratulations to all the winners for achieving remarkable growth while delivering new services and experiences for their customers."
"Emerging growth companies are powering innovation in the broader economy. The growth rates delivered by the companies on this year's North America Technology Fast 500 ranking are a bright spot for the capital markets and a strong indicator that the emerging growth technology sector will continue to deliver a strong return on investment," said Heather Gates, national managing director of Deloitte & Touche LLP's emerging growth company practice. "Deloitte is dedicated to supporting the best and brightest companies of the future in the emerging growth company sector. We are proud to acknowledge the significant accomplishments of this year's Fast 500 winners."

About CytoSorbents Corporation (NASDAQ: CTSO)
CytoSorbents Corporation is a leader in critical care immunotherapy, specializing in blood purification. Its flagship product, CytoSorb® is approved in the European Union with distribution in 44 countries around the world, as a safe and effective extracorporeal cytokine adsorber, designed to reduce the "cytokine storm" or "cytokine release syndrome" that could otherwise cause massive inflammation, organ failure and death in common critical illnesses such as sepsis, burn injury, trauma, lung injury and pancreatitis, as well as in cancer immunotherapy. These are conditions where the risk of death is extremely high, yet no effective treatments exist. CytoSorb® is also being used during and after cardiac surgery to remove inflammatory mediators, such as cytokines and free hemoglobin, which can lead to post-operative complications, including multiple organ failure. CytoSorbents has completed its REFRESH (REduction in FREe Hemoglobin) 1 trial – a multi-center, randomized controlled study that has demonstrated the safety and efficacy of free hemoglobin reduction with intra-operative CytoSorb® use in a heart-lung machine during complex cardiac surgery. In 2017, the Company plans to initiate a pivotal REFRESH 2 trial intended to support U.S. FDA approval. CytoSorb® has been used safely in more than 27,000 human treatments to date.
CytoSorbents' purification technologies are based on biocompatible, highly porous polymer beads that can actively remove toxic substances from blood and other bodily fluids by pore capture and surface adsorption. Its technologies have received non-dilutive grant, contract, and other funding of approximately $21 million from DARPA, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), and others. The Company has numerous products under development based upon this unique blood purification technology, protected by 32 issued U.S. patents and multiple applications pending, including CytoSorb-XL™, HemoDefend™, VetResQ™, K+ontrol™, ContrastSorb, DrugSorb, and others.
