Crowell & Moring Boosts International Arbitration Practice With Experienced New York Partner Harry Burnett
WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the addition of New York partner Henry "Harry" Guy Burnett to the firm's internationally recognized International Arbitration and Latin America practices. The former co-head of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP's New York International Arbitration Group and Latin America Practice Group, Burnett will help to spearhead Crowell & Moring's growing New York presence in these areas.
As a seasoned international arbitrator and commercial litigator with more than 20 years of experience, Burnett has represented a wide range of U.S. and international companies, including many longstanding Crowell & Moring clients such as AT&T. He has significant experience representing clients throughout North and South America on international arbitration, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and litigation proceedings in industries including telecommunications, voice and data, oil and gas, energy, automotive, import-export and distribution, securities, and music and entertainment.
Burnett's move comes on the heels of significant international expansion within the International Arbitration practice in recent years, including the 2009 addition of New York-based partner Pieter H.F. Bekker, head of the firm's Public International Law practice.
According to Arif Hyder Ali, chair of Crowell & Moring's International Arbitration practice, "Crowell & Moring's International Arbitration practice has long been engaged in Latin America and has extensive experience with the region's business practices and international legal institutions. Harry is the perfect complement to our New York and Latin American international arbitration disputes team. He has first-chair experience representing businesses engaged in Latin America on numerous arbitration and international litigation matters relating to, among other countries, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. As our clients face increasingly complex international disputes, Harry's arrival will be a tremendous asset to those clients who need to understand their full arsenal of resolution remedies."
An experienced trial lawyer who started his career as a prosecutor in Brooklyn, New York, Burnett assists clients with Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) investigations, disputes relating to breach of contract, domestic and international telecommunications issues, business torts, intellectual property (e.g., copyright, trademark, trade dress, unfair competition, false advertising, licensing, right of publicity), music publishing, management and recording agreements, product liability, professional liability and issues relating to insurance and reinsurance.
"I have known and worked with members of Crowell & Moring's International Arbitration practice for years and seen the practice thrive as it aggressively set out to develop a highly sophisticated team with global capabilities. The quality of their work and the diversity of the lawyers offers a tremendous asset for my clients, and I also look forward to being part of a team that continues to grow in New York," said Burnett.
Burnett has experience with a variety of arbitration procedures for foreign clients, primarily from Latin America, including those administered by the American Arbitration Association's (AAA) International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), as well as ad hoc arbitrations under the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) rules involving Latin America, West Africa, Eastern Europe, and elsewhere. He received a B.S. from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law. He is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
The firm's International Arbitration practice has recently been ranked by Chambers, Global Arbitration Review's "GAR 100" leading law firms with international arbitration capabilities, and others. In recent years, Global Arbitration Review has ranked Crowell & Moring's International Arbitration Practice as "excellent" and as among "the largest arbitration outfit(s) in Washington, D.C." In addition to Washington, D.C., lawyers in this field are working out of the firm's offices in California, New York, London, and Brussels. The team works in languages as diverse as Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian, German, Arabic, various dialects of Chinese, Dutch, Lithuanian, Malay, Urdu, Hindi, Gujarati and Bengali.
