The strategic communications and marketing firm topped a list of 50 finalists Crain's had cited as "... going beyond the pale for their employees." Peppercomm drew special attention for such innovative programs as its stand-up comedy training program and a permanent "Fun Committee" that's dedicated to ensuring the firm delivers on its work-hard, play-hard culture.
"This distinction is especially rewarding since we topped the very best organizations from a wide array of industries," said Steve Cody, co-founder and managing partner, Peppercomm. "We've always prided ourselves on listening first, last and always to our employees' needs. And, many of our programs reflect that approach. The stand-up comedy training, for example, not only helps individuals improve their presentations skills but, critically, enhances team building and morale in remarkable ways. Our multiple programs ensure myriad career paths, individual recognition and frankly, a really fun work environment. That, in turn, reduces turnover and heightens client satisfaction."
The final rankings of the Best Places to Work in New York City were unveiled at a Crain's New York Business luncheon on Nov. 30, and published in the magazine's Dec. 3 issue. This year, Peppercomm topped a list of such notable companies as Microsoft, MetLife and EMC2. Crain's New York Business selected winners based on the results of an employee-driven survey conducted by the magazine in partnership with independent research firm Best Company Group.
"We've always counseled clients that employees should be their number one constituent audience. That's the way it is at Peppercomm, which is why we provide everything from free flu shots and massages to a full-day retreat called Dream Day, in which we let every employee suggest ways in which we can become a better workplace," added Edward Moed, co-founder and managing partner of the firm.
The Crain win caps off a period of significant growth and change for Peppercomm, including a total rebrand (see: www.peppercomm.com). In just a few years, the traditional PR firm has evolved into a fully integrated marketing and communications consultancy that provides social media and digital offerings, creative services, events planning and strategic brand licensing, among other solutions.
