Cox Business and IO Partner to Provide Disaster Recovery Solution for International Genomics Consortium
Helps cancer research organization seek major new contracts
PHOENIX, March 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Business, IO's Phoenix data center and the International Genomics Consortium (IGC) are collaborating to strengthen the cancer research organization's information security through a direct Cox Business fiber link between IGC's Phoenix headquarters and IO's Phoenix data center. The Cox Business Metro Ethernet connection serves as disaster recovery/backup network connecting IGC to IO.
Having a deeper level of disaster recovery is essential to IGC as it seeks major new national scientific research contracts such as the major award it won from the National Cancer Institute. It provides for two key components in The Cancer Genome Atlas project (TCGA), collecting much of the tissue and data as a Tissue Source Site network and processing this as a Biospecimen Core Resource.
IGC oversees a large network of hospitals around the country that provides cancer tissue samples for analysis in TCGA. IGC also serves as a central laboratory and biobank for the project.
"IGC's new disaster recovery network will make us more appealing to national agencies when applying for federal research contracts," said David Neal, IGC's chief financial officer. "Cox Business and IO have the technical expertise we required to expand our own security standards as well as to provide assurance to the government and other research partners that data and services remain secure and operational at all times. The quality of service available with Cox Business and IO is unparalleled."
"Cox Business is dedicated to providing new layers of connectivity and security options for growing enterprises like IGC and is proud to know that our network is helping the organization advance its mission of fighting cancer and complex diseases," said Hyman Sukiennik, vice president of Cox Business.
IO's state-of-the-art environment ensures mission-critical IT systems and applications are always secure, connected and available 24x7xForever. IO was awarded The Uptime Institute's Tier III Certification for Design Documents for their Phoenix data center. This data center is the largest commercially available data center in the United States to achieve Tier III design certification from the Uptime Institute.
