Course Technology and EC-Council Deliver Book Series to Prepare Information Security Students for Government Mandates
U.S. Department of Defense Signs Directive Authorizing Ethical Hacker Certification for Computer Network Defense Service Providers
STAMFORD, Conn., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Course Technology, part of Cengage Learning and a leading provider of computing and information technology courseware, today announced the availability of the Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures Series, which covers topics in offensive network security, ethical hacking, and network defense and countermeasures. Developed in partnership with EC-Council, a global leader in Information Security and electronic business education, training and certification, the Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures Series is the only academic series available to prepare information technology students for the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification.
The availability of the Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures Series could not come at a more important time. Recently, the Department of Defense (DoD) signed Directive 8570 Information Assurance Workforce Improvement program, recognizing the CEH certification for Computer Network Defense Service Providers (CND-SPs), a specialized personnel classification within the DoD's information assurance workforce. The CEH certification is now an approved certification for CND-SP personnel working with the DoD – including CND Analysts, CND Infrastructure Support, CND Incident Responders and CND Auditors.
"Academic programs nationwide are recognizing that training for these certifications is important to adequately prepare students for the demands of information security employers," said Dave Garza, vice president, Career and Professional Business Unit, Cengage Learning. "As the exclusive academic publishing partner of EC-Council materials, we are fully-equipped to prepare students for careers in information security and network defense, including providing the academic materials needed for a variety of EC-Council certifications, such as Certified Ethical Hacker."
The Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures Series is comprised of five books and is designed to immerse students in an interactive environment where they will be shown how to scan, test, hack and secure information systems. The reader will gain in-depth knowledge and practical experience with essential security systems. A wide variety of tools, techniques, and viruses are covered in the series, providing a complete understanding of the tactics and tools used by hackers. By gaining a thorough understanding of how hackers operate, an Ethical Hacker will be able to set up strong countermeasures and defensive systems to protect an organization's critical infrastructure and information. Titles in the series include:
- Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures: Attack Phases (ISBN-13: 978-1-4354-8360-6)
- Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures: Linux, Macintosh and Mobile Systems (ISBN-13: 978-1-4354-8364-4)
- Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures: Secure Network Infrastructures (ISBN-13: 978-1-4354-8365-1)
- Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures: Threats and Defense Mechanisms (ISBN-13: 978-1-4354-8361-3)
- Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures: Web Applications and Data Servers (ISBN-13: 978-1-4354-8362-0)
In addition, Course Technology and the EC-Council have also published the Official Certified Ethical Hacker Review Guide, which can be used by students and working professionals alike in preparing for the challenging CEH exam. The book includes hundreds of review questions and answers, helpful at-a-glance reference boxes and tables, exam essentials summaries, tutorial information and more. It is the only such book sanctioned by EC-Council for the latest CEH exam.
"Through our partnership with Course Technology, we are preparing information security students and professionals to understand how hackers think, and educating them on the different cyber weapons hackers have at their disposal," said Jay Bavisi, co-founder and president, EC-Council. "With this important knowledge, they will be able to recognize and prevent dangerous security breaches."
