REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its ongoing celebration of innovation in higher education, the EdTech company Course Hero will be sponsoring a Higher Ed Happy Hour for Educators and Administrators attending SXSW EDU 2019. At this event, Course Hero—an online learning platform curating over 25 million course-specific study resources—will provide a new networking opportunity for individuals seeking to promote innovation in higher education.
On March 6, 2019, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Course Hero invites SXSW EDU attendees to Palm Door on Sabine in Austin, TX, for free drinks, hot appetizers, and idea sharing. There, members of the Course Hero educator partnerships team will be available to offer more information on opportunities for paid content creation, a feature article in the Faculty Club series, and Course Hero's upcoming 2019 Education Summit in San Francisco, CA.
Among the more than 300 educator partners now working with Course Hero, two who signed on at last year's SXSW EDU include Dr. Edward Burger, President of Southwestern University, and Dr. Cynthia Matson, President of Texas A&M University, San Antonio.
Recently, Dr. Burger visited Course Hero's headquarters in Redwood City to speak about his new book, Making Up Your Own Mind: Thinking Effectively Through Creative Puzzle-Solving, as part of the Course Hero Signature Lecture Series. Two other Course Hero partners will be presenting at SXSW: Jonathan Chin, MA, of the New York City College of Technology, CUNY, will share his colorful lesson "Using Tattoos to Teach the Essay Writing Process," and Kathryn Dawson from the University of Texas will host a book signing for her recently published Drama-Based Pedagogy: Activating Learning Across the Curriculum.
"Course Hero's vision is for every student to graduate confident and prepared," said Course Hero cofounder and CEO Andrew Grauer. "We are excited to connect with university and college educators at SXSW EDU who are innovating within their classrooms to learn from their best practices and experiences. We hope to build a network of educator resources to enable the best possible outcomes, for students and instructors alike."
At SXSW EDU 2018, Course Hero awarded scholarships to 5 educators, 4 of whom are now featured in Course Hero's Faculty Club series. These include LaShera McElhany, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education from Southwestern Assemblies of God University, and Latoya Hardman Lewis, Professor of English/Developmental English from Lone Star College System. Links to McElhany's tips for using educational technologies to teach the "YouTube generation" and Lewis's creation of an Instructional Technology Certification Program can be found on their profile pages.
