The National Economics ChallengeSM is the nation's most prestigious high school economics competition. The Challenge recognizes exceptional high school students for their knowledge of economic principles and their ability to apply problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to real-world events. This year, over 11,000 students across the U.S. participated in the competition.
The Finals, which include written exams and a critical thinking round, will be held May 20-May 22 in New York City. They culminate in a "quiz-bowl" round where student teams are called upon to answer tough questions on complex economic concepts and theories involving microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and current events, all in real-time. The Finals will be hosted by CNBC's Senior Economics Reporter, Steve Liesman.
This year's Challenge will also include a pilot of CEE's Economics Challenge: International, featuring a quiz bowl round of the winning U.S. teams against two teams from China. The China teams represent the winners from China's first-ever Economics Challenge: International, put on by our exclusive Chinese partner, SKT Education.
"I am always so impressed by the depth of knowledge and engagement of the students," Nan J. Morrison, CEE's President and CEO. "They represent the talented pipeline for tomorrow' leaders."
This year's Challenge is sponsored by Investopedia, who has generously provided the Championship team from each division with scholarship prizes and awards.
