BOISE, Idaho, Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Coordinated Care Oklahoma (CCO), the health information exchange (HIE) serving greater Oklahoma and the surrounding region, has partnered with Kno2™ to deliver affordable interoperability to all healthcare providers in its service area regardless of their level of technology adoption. The partnership will enable a more complete patient record and expansion of membership for one of the most advanced HIEs in the nation.
The majority of the health information in the CCO system to date has been provided by the largest influencers and providers of patient care: primarily health systems, hospitals and large ancillary service providers. Many providers, ranging from small physician practices and rehab facilities to home care and behavioral health providers, have been unable to exchange information via the HIE because of their lack of technology adoption. Kno2's unique interoperability platform will enable them to fully participate in CCO without changing their technology or workflows.
"By enabling all healthcare providers to effectively and efficiently interoperate with our HIE, Kno2's platform will enable us to create a much richer and complete, longitudinal patient record," said Dr. Brian Yeaman, MD, CCO Chief Administrative Officer and Medical Director. With Kno2, we can offer an affordable and feature-rich interoperability solution to our providers while supporting the operational costs of the HIE. Kno2 truly understands the economics of health information exchange and the business and technology model to support it."
The Kno2 platform leverages providers' existing technology infrastructure—including EMRs, fax machines, printers and scanners—and creates structured clinical document exchange from unstructured content. The cloud-based platform uses the federal government's Direct protocol for exchange of any type of patient information. However, unlike standard Direct messaging portals readily available on the market today, Kno2 is embedded into the existing workflows and systems of providers.
"We are excited to partner with CCO and be part of creating a groundbreaking, longitudinal patient record that incorporates information from all providers in the continuum," said Jon Elwell, CEO of Kno2. "Our experience shows that providers who haven't been able to participate in data exchange in the past will embrace the solution quickly. They can be up and running on the system in a matter of minutes. For very little cost, they will be able not only to send data into the HIE but also to receive data and incorporate that information back into their existing clinical workflows."
