MORGANTON, N.C., Oct. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Continental, one of the world's largest automotive suppliers, celebrated 20 years of best-in-class production at its Morganton Automotive Plant by honoring its dedicated workforce. The facility, which produces Electronic Braking Systems and Air Springs, held a special ceremony attended by government officials, local dignitaries, current and past employees.
Continental's Morganton facility was built 20 years ago for the sole purpose of ABS production. Since then, Morganton has developed into a pioneering manufacturer of a number of electronic braking systems – including ABS, TCS, and ESC units – as well as air springs.
Today, the 210,000 square-foot facility boasts a workforce of over 500 employees and produces 20,000 finished electronic brake systems per day.
"Continental's success and longevity in Morganton is a testament to a dedicated workforce and the ongoing support of our economic development representatives, civic, and state leaders," said Samir Salman, CEO NAFTA. "We are proud of our 20 years here and, more importantly, we look forward to the years to come."
Salman, along with David Jones, plant manager of the Morganton facility, and Morganton Mayor Mel Cohen, gave remarks at the Wednesday celebration, which was followed by an employee luncheon.
Due to significant growth in the automotive market, the Morganton facility continues to increase in both production levels and employment figures.
"Continental's Morganton plant was founded upon innovation, teamwork, and a passion to succeed," said Jones. "All of these are principles that continue to be seen in our workplace to this day. We are committed to providing the highest quality products at the lowest cost in order to meet the needs of our loyal customers."
In addition to 20 years at its Morganton facility, Continental is also recognizing its 15-year presence in Henderson, North Carolina and 35 years at its Culpeper, Virginia facility.
