Consumers are Tackling Holiday Shopping Earlier This Year -- and Black Friday Wish Lists Could Include Some Interesting Twists, Experts Say
LANCASTER, Pa., Nov. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Retail analysts report that most consumers who will celebrate the holidays this year are already making a healthy dent in their shopping lists. According to the National Retail Federation, nearly 57 percent -- the highest level since 2008 -- had started gift shopping as of early November. That bodes well for this year's holiday season.
What will consumers be looking for as the season reaches its much-anticipated pinnacle on Black Friday? One source of expert insight into this question might seem surprising: the Federal Aviation Administration. According to Forbes, an FAA official predicted earlier this year that as many as 1 million drones -- yes, drones -- could be given as holiday gifts in 2015.
But even more novel than drones as a hot holiday gift might be the choice of where consumers can get them. For example, Turkey Hill Minit Markets, the convenience-store chain with stores across Pennsylvania and an expanding presence in Ohio and Indiana, is featuring a Stunt Series Drone for $49.99 among their Black Friday deals.
"We knew drones were expected to be sought-after gifts this year, so we wanted to give our customers an easy way to get one at a great price," said Kim Hertzog, Public Relations Manager, Turkey Hill Minit Markets. "Since the demand is high, we'll only be able to have a limited quantity of Stunt Series Drones at each store. But that's just the beginning of the deals for Black Friday at Turkey Hill."
Turkey Hill will offer each shopper a free 16-ounce cup of coffee, fountain or slushey on Black Friday. Customers can also enter automatically for a chance to win a 50" big screen TV when they use their Turkey Hill Rewards Cards with purchase of any item on Turkey Hill's list of Black Friday specials. For 2015, that list ranges from 48-ounce Turkey Hill Ice Cream for $1.99, to NET10 prepaid phones at 80 percent off, to Dancing Waters speakers for $24.99.
The Turkey Hill Rewards Card can also help customers get more value out of their overall Black Friday shopping.
"We're offering added fuel points to customers who use their Turkey Hill Rewards Cards when purchasing gift cards from select retailers, to use directly as gifts or to spend at stores for Black Friday shopping," Hertzog said. "We sell gift cards from most of the top name stores that people will be headed for. So why not boost your fuel savings by making Turkey Hill your first Black Friday stop? Enjoy a free coffee on us, grab a drone while supplies last, enter for a chance to win a free 50-inch TV, get some great gifts for folks on your shopping list, and save on fuel -- all at your nearest Turkey Hill."
