Congressman Mulvaney Visits Nation Ford Chemical
Lawmaker Tours Facility, Meets Employees
FORT MILL, S.C., Jan. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In an effort to better educate policymakers about specialty manufacturing, Nation Ford Chemical (NFC) on January 8 welcomed Congressman Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) to its facility in Fort Mill, S.C. NFC employees held frank discussions with Mulvaney on a variety of pressing topics, including regulatory reform, international trade and duty suspensions.
Mulvaney reiterated the importance of congressional passage of the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill, a compilation of duty suspensions on raw materials or intermediate goods such as chemicals.
"Duty suspensions are key for companies like ours to be able to reinvest in their business, whether through jobs or research and development expenditures," said NFC CEO John Dickson. "We greatly appreciate Congressman Mulvaney's continued leadership on this critical issue."
Dickson also discussed NFC's recent efforts to assist the U.S. government in reclaiming $45 million in unpaid import duties from a Japanese company under the False Claims Act. He also briefed Mulvaney on the company's recent growth activities and efforts to improve its environmental, health, safety and security activities through ChemStewards®, a program of the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates. Through membership in the trade association, NFC has achieved certification in the performance improvement program and won several awards, most recently for its resource management and waste minimization activities.
Following his meeting with NFC management, Mulvaney addressed 70 NFC employees and contractors before touring the facility. During a question and answer period, employees asked Mulvaney about a range of issues from the fiscal cliff crisis to entitlement reforms and the future of Social Security.
"We are grateful Congressman Mulvaney took time to visit our facility to learn more about our operations and the specific challenges we face," said Phillip McCarter, Vice President of NFC. "It is critical for Washington to help companies like NFC better compete by strengthening policies that make growth and innovation possible. We look forward to continuing our dialogue with Congressman Mulvaney and his staff."
