DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the technology industry, today announced the addition of two prominent organizations as members of its State and Local Government and Education Council.
Joining the council are ShoreTel® (NASDAQ: SHOR), a leading provider of cloud, premises-based and hybrid business telephony and unified communications solutions; and Rogers Joseph O'Donnell, one of the leading government contracts law firms in the country.
The State and Local Government and Education Council, a key part of CompTIA's public sector practice, includes executives from leading technology companies and other organizations serving the state and local government and education markets.
"With its strong presence in the government and education verticals, ShoreTel brings an added level of expertise and insight to our State and Local Government and Education Council," said
Peter Kaminskas, vice president, member relations, CompTIA. "Our council members are a source of knowledge for CompTIA members and the wider industry, offering guidance and support on how to grow business opportunities in the government and education markets."
Rogers Joseph O'Donnell has been recognized as one of the top eight government contracts law firms in the nation by Chambers USA, a publisher of guides to the legal profession since 1990.
"Government procurement has become an increasingly challenging market to navigate," Kaminskas said. "Rogers Joseph O'Donnell brings unique and valuable insight to our council. They are especially recognized for leadership in state and local IT contracting and for cybersecurity."
The CompTIA State and Local Government and Education Council is engaged in several ongoing, member-led initiatives. In California and Texas council members have formed state procurement committees to create the best possible environment for successful IT procurement and to weigh in on legislation and policies that help government implement rules and regulations to improve the use of technology in those states.
In partnership with the National Association of State CIOs and Grant Thornton, the council publishes an annual survey of state government IT leaders on current technology issues, trends and perspectives. The 2016 report will be released later this year.
Council members are also active in industry conferences and events. The council will participate in the National Association of State Technology Directors annual conference in August; the National Association of State CIOs annual conference and the Public Technology Institute 2016 Local Government CIO Summit in September; and the National Association for State Chief Administrators Institute on Management and Leadership in October.
Membership in CompTIA's three public sector councils has grown by better than 25 percent over the past year. To learn more about CompTIA's public sector activities visit https://www.comptia.org/communities/public-sector-councils.
