BALTIMORE, Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CompTIA, the information technology (IT) industry association, said today it is participating in this week's launch of the NSA Day of Cyber, a nationwide effort to raise the national IQ for STEM and cyber education and careers.
The National Security Agency (NSA) along with leading educators, non-profits and business leaders have joined forces to promote STEM education and career pathways to the nation's 40 million-plus middle school, high school and college students through the NSA Day of Cyber. This free interactive, self-guided and fully-automated awareness program allows students to "test drive" cyber careers and live a day in the life of leading NSA professionals.
The premiere of the NSA Day of Cyber is set for Thursday, October 29, as part of the CyberMaryland Conference 2015 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
"Cybersecurity is an issue that touches virtually every segment of the public and private sector," said Thomas Reilly, vice president, CompTIA Learning. "Corporate espionage, data leakage and loss, privacy and many related issues impact individuals and organizations alike.
"This has created a rapidly growing need for trained and certified cybersecurity professionals," Reilly continued. "The NSA Day of Cyber program is a powerful and exciting way to ignite student interest about careers in cybersecurity."
The program is delivered by LifeJourney via a cloud-based platform. The LifeJourney online experience empowers students to test-drive future STEM careers and learn directly from top industry professionals.
Schools and students unable to participate in this week's live event can still access the NSA Day of Cyber initiative, which continues throughout the year and into 2016. Visit http://www.nsadayofcyber.com/ to learn how.
LifeJourney and CompTIA also collaborate on the CyberTeacher program, the nation's first cloud-based professional development and certificate program infusing cybersecurity content and IT skills into high school teacher training. The program provides teachers and schools with important capabilities that introduce cyber into the classroom, including a CyberTeacher Certificate, as well as cyber-related lesson plans, resources and career guidance tools that integrate into existing lesson plans.
The CyberTeacher program features a CompTIA CertMaster Fundamentals of Cyber adaptive eLearning course. CompTIA CertMaster is an online learning tool that helps individuals prepare for certification exams with confidence. It's an intelligent trainer that leads students through course material in a method that promotes fast, effective learning and long-term retention.
CompTIA has more than two decades of experience in building and promoting cybersecurity readiness, including certifications for IT professionals; best practices and credentials for organizations; and soon, innovative new cybersecurity awareness training for anyone who touches a PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet.
