Colorado State University Global Joins Online Course-Sharing Network to Support Continuity of Learning in Wake of Campus Closures
The Higher Education Course Recovery Consortium Supported by Acadeum Connects Students Disrupted by COVID-19 With the Courses They Need
AURORA, Colo., June 12, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Colorado State University Global (CSU Global), a leader in online education, today formally announced its membership as a teaching institution in the Higher Education Course Recovery Consortium, powered by Acadeum, a network of institutions committed to sharing high-quality online courses. Through the consortium, universities are sharing open, existing course capacity throughout 2020 with institutions that lack flexible, online course options to meet students' needs in the face of the pandemic. To date, the consortium is comprised of 25 other accredited universities and has a repository totaling more than 9,000 courses.
"We are proud to be able to partner with Acadeum to help students all across the country continue progressing toward their degree completion during these difficult times," said CSU Global Provost and VP of Strategic Development, Dr. Karen Ferguson. "We know that traditional on-ground institutions have had to make difficult decisions for the safety of their community. As we move into the next academic year, we hope to extend a consortial relationship to these universities to allow them to serve their students without spending further critical resources on the development of temporary virtual courses and remote options."
Currently, there are more than 2 million seats in purposely designed, high-quality online courses available through the consortium. The consortium was formed in response to physical campuses shutting down, which are leaving thousands of students scrambling to obtain the credits they need to stay on track and graduate as scheduled. This can include students who are nearing completion, those struggling to be far away from campus--including international students--as well those trying to balance education with other life priorities. By deploying the consortial model, all credits, financial aid, and GPA can count at their home institution toward graduation. The consortium allows for flexibility around start dates and course length to help students access courses as they need them.
"In the past few months students have faced unprecedented disruption to not just their higher education, but across their lives," said Dr. Rob Manzer, Chief Academic Officer at Acadeum. "By joining the consortium and allowing access to their courses, CSU Global is providing opportunities for students affected by this pandemic to continue their educational pathways and stay on track to graduate on-time."
