Clapp Communications Adds Literate Nation to its Growing List of Clients
BALTIMORE, July 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Clapp Communications, an award-winning marketing and public relations firm headquartered in Baltimore, is pleased to announce Literate Nation as its newest client. Literate Nation is a nonprofit organization that aims to empower our nation's citizens with the literacy skills needed to thrive in the dynamic, global environment of the 21st century.
"We are so excited to be working with Literate Nation. Our experience and commitment to education makes this partnership a great match," said Barb Clapp, President and CEO of Clapp Communications. "We are very impressed with Literate Nation's expertise and goal of helping the U.S. education system reclaim its leadership role in student literacy and academic achievement, and we look forward to tapping into our experience in the education industry to help them make an impact in our country."
Clapp Communications will manage public relations for the San Francisco-based nonprofit; support its role as technical advisors to policymakers, educators, and advocates; and help build partnerships in a state-by-state literacy movement to propel the systemic changes needed for a literate nation.
Literate Nation calls for reform starting at the college, teacher preparation level to improve educational outcomes in the U.S. According to a benchmark report released this month by U.S. News & World Report and the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) that grades teacher preparation programs across the country, successful, high-performing schools are far outnumbered by those that fail to prepare their teaching candidates for the challenges of real classrooms.
"While a comprehensive education overhaul is needed for all students to achieve literacy and academic success, change must originate at the top -- from within colleges and their teacher preparation programs. Insufficient professional preparation does these aspiring teachers and their future students a terrible disservice. If a teacher's preparation is subpar, their students' learning outcomes suffer, as does our country," said Cinthia Coletti, CEO of Literate Nation. "We are so pleased that Clapp Communications is now part of our team. Their solid experience will help Literate Nation spread the word about the worrisome state of education in the U.S. and enable us to make a positive difference in the lives of our students."
