Chromalox Announces New Prefabricated Heat Trace Bundles: Pre-Insulated, Steam- and Electric-Traced Process Tubing
Prefabricated bundles simplify installation and reduce costs compared to field fabrication.
PITTSBURGH, June 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Chromalox, a leading manufacturer of electric heat and control products, today introduced jacketed process tubing bundles consisting of insulation, steam tracing, or electric heat tracing to their offering. The tubing bundles are available with copper, stainless, high alloy or fluoropolymer process tubing as well as a wide variety of insulation and jacket materials. Traced bundles incorporate steam tubing or electric heat trace with choice of self-regulating or constant wattage heating elements.
The tubing bundles are typically used to protect viscous materials from freezing, to avoid gas condensation, and to improve employee safety. Additionally they maintain process temperatures and protect instrument sampling and impulse lines. Bundles may include single or multiple process tubes suited for use in heat trace systems in industries such as chemicals, plastics, power generation, oil and gas, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, food production, and water and wastewater.
According to Chris Myers, product manager, Heat Trace, these prefabricated tube bundles simplify installation and reduce costs by up to 40% compared to field fabrication. They also offer consistent performance and high quality to ensure safe operations. "The electrically traced bundles integrate seamlessly with our intelliTRACE control panels," said Myers. "They can also contain integral electric power and sensor wires that are preapproved for use in hazardous locations."
Chromalox's new tubing bundle offerings include:
- 2200 Series – Pre-insulated single process tube suitable for steam, gas or liquid. The energy-efficient design provides for nominal jacket surface temperatures of 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) or lower at 80 degrees F (26 degrees C) ambient conditions, while transporting process saturated steam at 400 degrees F (204 degrees C).
- 2210 Series – Pre-insulated single process tube suitable for steam, gas, or liquid at higher process temperatures than the 2200 series. These bundles maintain an average outer jacket temperature below 170 degrees F (77 degrees C) at continuous process fluid operating temperatures up to 700 degrees F (370 degrees C).
- 2211-2213 Series – Single and multiple process tubes with a single steam trace for high temperature applications. These bundles maintain an average jacket temperature below 160 degrees F at continuous process fluid operating temperatures up to 700 degrees F (370 degrees C).
- 2252 CPD – 2262 CPD Series – Single or multiple process tubes traced with a constant wattage heating element braided with tinned copper and wrapped in reflective foil. The constant wattage heating element suits a wide range of temperature maintenance applications. The standard bundle comes with 120 VAC heater and will maintain a single process tube above 200 degrees F (93 degrees C) at a -40 degrees F (-40 degrees C) ambient.
- 2256 LTM – 2266 LTM Series – Single or multiple process tubes traced with self-regulating electric heating elements braided with tinned copper and wrapped in reflective foil. LTM refers to low temperature maintenance of the process tubing. The energy-efficient design will maintain process tube temperatures of up to 100 degrees F (38 degrees C) at -40 degrees F (-40 degrees C) ambient.
- 2256 HTM – 2266 HTM Series – Similar to the LTM series above, except the process tubing may be cleaned with steam or purged with hot gas (high temperature maintenance). The heating element can withstand exposure to temperatures up to 366 degrees F (185 degrees C).
"The key takeaway is that these tubing bundles simplify tracing designs, speed installation, and provide a more consistent thermal output versus field traced and insulated systems," said Myers. "They supplement and complement our entire line of Chromalox heat tracing products."
