Chile is ready to showcase its consolidated video game industry at GDC 2014
The South American country arrives in San Francisco for the third consecutive time to showcase a diverse and creative export supply, ranging from games to social networks and tablets. Chilean authority say the industry has grown in size but that quality is even better, a well-cared trademark since the start of the Chilean game industry.
SAN FRANCISCO, March 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Eight Chilean companies together with ProChile and the Trade Association for Video Game Developers of Chile, VG Chile will attend a new edition of the Game Developers Conference, the largest video game trade show in North America; Chile's meeting point will be at Booth 2419, South Hall. On this occasion the main objective of the Chilean companies is to finally position Chile as an exporter of digital products, with high components of creativity, innovation and added value.
There are currently 35 companies in Chile dedicated to producing video games and there are colleges focused on developing these services. According to Video Games Chile, revenue by these companies in 2013 ranged between USD 12 million and USD 15 million. Video Games Chile, VG Chile, is the business association that gathers companies in this industry since 2010.
"Chile has a growing video game industry, in addition to competent professionals capable of developing good quality and at competitive prices. Developing these technologies also promotes Chile and allows exporting products that can only be found in our country, which gives us an advantage over potential competitors "Francisco Correa says, Trade Commissioner of Chile in Los Angeles.
The importance of attending GDC
It is essential for Chilean game developers to attend GDC since this trade fair brings together much of the supply and demand of the industry. It also has an educational objective as there are seminars, tutorials and lectures grouped into topics such as audio, production, visual arts, programming, production, game design and business and management.
"Expectations are pinned on Chilean video game developers taking advantage of these instances in order to network with key players of the global industry. We know that the Chilean potential could position our country as the main hub of game development in Latin America, "Correa says.
Meanwhile, the President of Video Game Chile (VG Chile), Juan Pablo Lastra, says that Chilean industry has grown in volume but quality remains as good as it has been since the start of this business. "That's what we want to showcase at GDC 2014. In the past our presence at GDC was quite small but we have seen that our presence has grown over the years. "
One of the companies attending this year's GDC is AmnesiaGames, which this year won one of 9 vacancies (out of 100 applicants) to attend the program "Chartboost University", which consists of coaching in one of the most important networks in the world of gaming advertising. "We applied with "Jane Sword" our next action RPG style game. In Chartboost University we learned a lot, but the most valuable thing I think was networking with the most important businesses in San Francisco. We hope to achieve the same at GDC 2014 "Alejandro Woywood of AmnesiaGames says.
