Checkbook NYC Named "Best External Application" by Government Technology Magazine

STERLING, Va., Nov. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Checkbook NYC, a financial transparency tool developed by REI Systems and the Office of the New York City Comptroller, was named "Best External Application" by Government Technology Magazine at the 2013 Best of New York City Awards ceremony in Brooklyn, NY.

The web-based application is a key part of Comptroller Liu's commitment to enable financial transparency and achieve cost savings. Checkbook NYC provides up-to-date information about New York City's revenues, expenditures, contracts, payroll, and budget, and allows the public to keep a close eye on government spending.

When presenting the award, Government Technology said, "More than a website, Checkbook NYC's components deliver unprecedented access to New York City's finances." They also note the importance of the project's open-sourced code: "New York City has released the source code for Checkbook into the public domain so that other state, county, and local governments can leverage NYC's investment for their own transparency initiatives."
