Chartwells' Partnerships with Hampton Creek and Food Recovery Network Produced $10K Donation From 2,700 Cookie Giveaway
RYE BROOK, N.Y., Nov. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Through combined efforts, Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services and Hampton Creek created excitement on the AASHE 2014 Conference & Expo exhibition floor by using social media and a fresh cookie giveaway to raise $10,000 for the Food Recovery Network.
As the leading U.S. contract foodservice provider, Chartwells brought in partners at Hampton Creek to provide a sustainably produced food product and tied it into a social media promotion that supported the charitable efforts and food waste awareness initiatives of the Food Recovery Network; all which support AASHE's mission.
Food Recovery Network unites students on college and university campuses to fight food waste and hunger by recovering perishable food that would otherwise go to waste from their campuses and surrounding communities and donating it to people in need.
Josh Tetrick, Hampton Creek CEO & Founder, said, "Hampton Creek provided 2,700 sustainably produced and freshly baked cookies called Just Cookies to booth visitors with a tie to a special cause with the Food Recovery Network. For each social media post, retweet and student selfie posting that included the #justabite hashtag, Hampton Creek made a donation to the Food Recovery Network." Over the course of the 3-day AASHE conference, 9,700 postings led to a $10,000 donation. The Food Recovery Network calculates that $1 is equal to 1 meal, and with the $10,000 donation, that equates to 10,000 meals for those in need.
"Social media marketing played a huge role at our booth this year where we gained powerful brand advocates among college students and raised awareness about Chartwells' commitment to sustainable products and practices," said Patti Girardi, Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services for Chartwells.
According to Laura Lapp, Chartwells' Director of Nutrition and Sustainability, "Other booths provided some great recycling, solar, building and sustainable solutions that support environmental conservation practices for campuses. Chartwells also exhibited at AASHE to share its innovations, knowledge and practices that can meet sustainability challenges for all stakeholders."
