PORTLAND, Maine, Sept. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- For the third year in a row the Maine Lobster industry is gearing up to celebrate National Lobster Day on September 25th. Maine Lobster is an American icon that has been enjoyed by diners across the world for centuries. As the catch continues to increase, there has also been an increase in popularity of the famed crustacean with the influx in demand for lobster rolls, and as chefs look for new ways to incorporate it into unique dishes and pair it with fresh flavors such as basil and ginger.
"Most people don't know that the best time to enjoy a Maine Lobster is during late summer and fall, which is why we celebrate National Lobster Day on September 25th," said Dave Cousens, Maine Lobsterman. "It's important to us that we bring attention to our industry during the time when our catch is at its highest."
"The Maine Lobster story is truly unparalleled, and we are so thrilled to once again be celebrating National Lobster Day with the support of Senators King and Collins in Maine," said Matt Jacobson, Executive Director of the Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative. "The Maine Lobster industry represents a true success story, and that is something we find resonates not only with consumers, but with chefs who want a story to serve with their food."
Ahead of National Lobster Day, the Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative (MLMC) headed to New York City for a Maine Lobster-inspired restaurant industry night event attended by chefs, culinary professionals, media and influencers from across the city. The event, "Maine After Midnight," celebrated the historic American seafood, the sustainable fishing practices Maine Lobstermen have practiced for centuries, and the culinary versatility of the crustacean through a variety of unique dishes created by event cohost Chef Jonathan Waxman.
"Maine Lobster is special – it's not only a great product, but it comes with such a profound story," said Chef Jonathan Waxman. "I've had the privilege of going lobstering in Maine, and these lobstermen are some of the hardest working people I've ever met – they take great pride in what they do and bringing this amazing delicacy to tables around the world."
The MLMC brought "Maine After Midnight" to tastemakers in culinary epicenters across the country throughout the summer including Dallas, Chicago and San Francisco, and continues to celebrate peak season with the official National Lobster Day on Sept. 25.
