SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Carrum Health, the next-generation Center of Excellence (CoE) platform for employers, today announced that Sally Welborn, the former senior vice president of Global Benefits for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., has joined its advisory board. Welborn, who is credited for driving innovation in health benefits at the retail giant by creating Centers of Excellence (CoE) and establishing a bundled payment alternative for certain medical procedures, will offer her expertise to Carrum Health as it scales its business nationally and seeks to partner with large national employers.
"Sally has a strong legacy in the health benefits sector and her work has been an inspiration to our team as we crafted the Carrum platform," said Sach Jain, CEO of Carrum Health. "We have a lot of admiration for her focus on improving quality outcomes for employees, while ensuring that employer costs are contained. Sally's valuable guidance will be a key factor in enabling us to accelerate Carrum's national expansion."
Welborn was Walmart's senior vice president of Global Benefits for almost eight years, before retiring in July 2017. There she designed and implemented benefits programs for 2.2 million employees worldwide, including the nationally recognized CoE program, which incorporated bundled payments for specific procedures, and a service that offered second opinions to eligible members. Earlier in her career, Welborn served for more than 11 years as senior vice president of Corporate Benefits for Wells Fargo & Co.
"The Center of Excellence model is close to my heart, having seen first hand how employees benefited from it at Walmart. I appreciate the great work Carrum is doing to use technology and analytics to make the CoE model more effective and scalable," said Welborn. "I am honored to be a part of Carrum's advisory board, and join them in their mission to fundamentally change the way healthcare benefits are delivered."
