CARB Extends Verification for Johnson Matthey's CRT® Particulate Filter to Include 13" Diameter Systems for 1994-2006 Engines up to 650 hp
The benchmark CRT filter has been used for more than 200,000 retrofits throughout the world
AUDUBON, Pa., Oct. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has extended its verification of the Johnson Matthey CRT® Particulate Filter system to include 13" diameter systems that will work on large bore, high horsepower 1994 to 2006 model year on-road engines up to 650 hp.
As the global pioneer and leader in controlling emissions from mobile and stationary sources, Johnson Matthey's CRT® filter has revolutionized modern diesel emissions reduction. The first filter verified by EPA and CARB, the CRT filter has become the industry standard for Heavy Duty Diesel Retrofit Technology.
Marty Lassen, JM Director of Regulatory Affairs and Marketing, said the newly verified CRT filter size now allows application on large bore engines that are used in Class 7 and 8 trucks affected by CARB's Truck and Bus regulation.
"The essence of our 13" CRT filter design is that it is both cost effective and compact so it will fit on vehicles where competitor systems cannot due to their larger sizes," explained Lassen. "The CRT filter is also the most trusted filter globally; it has been used for more than 200,000 retrofits."
He added that it is also the CRT Filter is fully passively regenerating system, meaning that it requires no operator intervention to clean soot from the filter, and does not raise the temperature of the diesel exhaust.
"Also, with this verification extension," said Lassen, "CARB has approved the JM policies for swapping (filter cleaning flexibility) and re-designation (moving the CRT system from one vehicle to another). These approvals give users a lot of flexibility in their daily operation and maintenance of vehicles equipped with CRT filters."
