Capital BlueCross, Change Healthcare First to Market with Health Insurance Marketplace Video Series
Videos educate consumers on marketplaces, shopping for healthcare
BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Aug. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Change Healthcare®, the market leader in consumer engagement and cost transparency, is partnering with leading health insurer Capital BlueCross to help consumers prepare for the launch of health insurance marketplaces (aka exchanges) through a series of online, educational videos.
The new video series is a part of Change Healthcare's Healthcare University solution, which uses educational videos, quizzes, games and game mechanics to teach consumers the basics of healthcare and how to make value-based decisions. Each health insurance marketplace video helps prepare consumers to understand and shop on the new marketplaces. Change Healthcare selected Capital BlueCross to help develop the content, and the health plan is first to market with the new Health Insurance Marketplace subject.
"Millions of consumers are shopping for their healthcare for the first time this year, and we understand what a challenging task this could be without the right education and tools," said Brooke Nordai, Capital BlueCross director of product development. "At Capital BlueCross, we are committed to empowering consumers to make the best healthcare choices for their families by providing easy-to-understand and engaging information and resources. That's why we're making these videos available to the public for free on our Web site."
The videos, an average of three minutes in length and available on Capital BlueCross' Web site now, educate on a variety of marketplace-specific subjects, such as how subsidies work and how to shop on a marketplace.
A recent survey by AFLAC highlights the growing need for more consumer education regarding benefits education, especially with the pending open enrollment for the marketplaces. The survey found more than half of consumers worry about gaining greater control over their benefits, because they lack the time and information to understand and manage their benefits effectively.
"Understanding health benefits can be difficult and confusing, but it doesn't have to be," said Douglas Ghertner, president and CEO of Change Healthcare. "Healthcare University helps consumers take control of their healthcare and their benefits. The new video series takes learning a step further, to prepare consumers to shop on the health insurance marketplaces."
