BOSTON, May 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- A new report from the Consumer Sentiment Analysis (CSA) service at Strategy Analytics "Monthly Ratings Report April 2017: US Flagship Smartphones", analyzing consumer reviews from major distribution channels in the US, has found that specific features such as battery, camera and display have become integral drivers in the satisfaction or dissatisfaction of new smartphone purchases.

Key report findings include:
- The camera was the most mentioned device feature for nearly all flagship smartphones included in this study.
- The camera of the Samsung Galaxy S7 was mentioned positively by 1 in 5 reviews, compared to 1 in 6 reviews of the Apple iPhone 7.
- Almost 1 in 5 reviews commented positively on the battery of Samsung Galaxy S7 compared to only 1 in 10 Apple iPhone 7 reviews.
- In comparison, while nearly 1 in 5 reviews commented positively on the battery life of the Motorola Moto Z Droid, 1 in 10 commented negatively, the most of any flagship smartphone included in this study.
"High market share indicates the popularity of a brand, but it is important to note that it does not directly equate to consumer sentiment for that brand. This is especially true when investigating the correlation between sentiment and market share at the model level. The ranking of top smartphones based on consumer sentiment analysis and market share of flagship devices is quite different," commented Adam Thorwart, Lead Analyst and report author.
Kevin Nolan, VP, UXIP added "This is particularly interesting when comparing the success of Samsung's Galaxy S7 to Apple's iPhone 7. Samsung Galaxy S7 consumers were more critical of battery performance than any other feature reviewed which could feed into Samsung's on-going battery challenges, not least because of the additional features which come with a S8 without incremental battery power increases. It will be very interesting to see how this is viewed because battery performance is always a critical topic."
