California Property Taxes Due December 12
RESTON, Va., Dec. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Official Payments Corp., a leading provider of electronic payment solutions, alerts property owners in California that the deadline for property taxes is 5 p.m. on December 12. California property taxes are usually due December 10, but taxpayers get two extra days this year, because December 10 falls on a Saturday.
"Many counties in the Golden State have partnered with Official Payments to make paying taxes easier and more convenient for their residents," said Alex P. Hart, President and CEO of Tier Technologies, Inc., the parent company of Official Payments. "To make a payment, taxpayers can go online at www.OfficialPayments.com, click the 'Local Payments' button, and select the state of California, your Payment Entity and Payment Type from the pull-down menus."
The following debit and credit cards are accepted: Visa®, American Express®, Discover® or MasterCard®. Some counties also allow payment by electronic check.
Failure to pay before the deadline can be expensive. California property owners are charged 10 percent of the tax due when the tax becomes delinquent, plus an additional 10 dollars every time the tax collector has to make a report of delinquency.
