In this role, he assists qualified projects source capital through the strategic use of the federal new market tax credit program administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Previously, Byford served as General Counsel and Executive Vice President of S.B. Phillips Co., Inc. where he provided legal counsel to the company and served on its executive management team. Other professional experience includes having served as President of Banker Exchange, LLC, a national qualified intermediary for Section 1031 tax deferred exchanges. Byford began his career as a tax and corporate attorney with the law firm of Leatherwood Walker Todd & Mann, P.C. (now Smith Moore Leatherwood, LLP), where he advised clients with respect to all aspects of their business operations. In addition to serving as counsel for commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, he often assisted in the structuring and coordination of tax advantaged transactions.
Byford received his LLM in taxation from the University of Denver and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He received an undergraduate degree in English from the Citadel. He is actively involved in the thriving community of Greenville, S.C. and previously served as the Treasurer of the Advisory Board to the Salvation Army of Greenville and served on the Kroc Community Center Capital Campaign Executive Committee. He is currently legal advisor to Indie Craft Parade, a non-profit organization focused on the sustaining and advancement of independent craft artisans.
