New study demonstrates clinical efficacy and safety of BTL Vanquish for circumferential reduction of waistline in multiple body types
BOSTON, Nov. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- BTL Aesthetics today announced the release of a new study which further demonstrates the superior results of body shaping leader, BTL Vanquish, a radio frequency treatment that offers patients a solution to reducing stubborn fat around the midsection and effectively improves contouring of the abdomen and love handles. The study, conducted by board certified plastic surgeon, Amir Morandi, MD and board certified dermatologist, Melanie Palm, MD, aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of the popular protocol.
The study found that subjects experienced an average of 1.7 inch reduction in abdominal circumference following a controlled series of treatments with BTL Vanquish. This reduction was specifically noteworthy as the results were similar to a previous study conducted of 40 participants with an overall higher BMI on average, demonstrating that the treatment is beneficial for a variety of body types, including those with lower BMI levels. Additionally, in order for the study to be considered effective, the physicians were also looking for a statistically significant reduction in circumference three months following treatment in order to show the permanent destruction of fat cells, which was concluded as effective for the subjects in this study.
"As a practicing cosmetic dermatologist, seeing a significant reduction in subjects with a lower BMI was particularly impressive to me as it shows how BTL Vanquish is also a reliable option for more active patients, especially those who need that little extra boost to remove lingering or stubborn fat to further support a healthy lifestyle," said Dr. Palm. "The results also show the continued advancements in radio frequency technology, as I personally see radio frequency as the next big wave in cosmetic dermatology," added Dr. Palm.
The study was conducted on 24 subjects, primarily female, ranging from 30-69 in age, who all received four weekly 45-minute radio frequency treatments targeting the abdomen area and love handles. Results were tracked through standardized digital photographs and circumference measurements, and compared to biometric measurements such as weight, hydration and body fat collected at baseline and each study visit. In addition, 4 subjects were randomly selected for serum lipid and liver-related blood tests at baseline and periodically throughout treatment and follow up visits to determine safety.
"As a company committed to innovation, we're excited by the impressive results we're continuing to see through additional testing of our Vanquish device," said Jan Zarsky, Director of North America of BTL Aesthetics. "With the continued support of our valued physician partners, and recent introduction of the next generation, BTL Vanquish ME, we're confident that we'll continue to impress patients with safe and visible results," added Zarsky.
BTL Vanquish and Vanquish ME utilize patented, non-invasive and painless radiofrequency technology to reduce fat in the core and abdomen. Featuring the industry's largest treatment spot size, the newly released BTL Vanquish ME is designed to treat the whole abdomen from flank to flank during one session for faster, smoother results. BTL Vanquish ME is clinically shown to be an efficacious and repeatable procedure for those looking to eliminate belly fat and love handles without surgery.
The full study can be found in the September 2015 issue of Journal of Drugs and Dermatology.
