Brandon Frere Recommends That Entrepreneurs Get More Done Through Proper Planning and Prioritization of Their Tasks

PETALUMA, Calif., July 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Many entrepreneurs complete hundreds of tasks every day, but do not feel like they are making any progress toward their goals. After a long day of varied and draining work, it may feel like nothing of value was accomplished. The problem might be that the tasks were given the wrong priority, says Brandon Frere, successful entrepreneur and CEO of Frere Enterprises.

When deciding on the effectiveness of a task, one needs a good way to measure its success. Design a monthly goal and decide how to determine whether progress is being made toward that goal. A good example of a monthly goal would be something like "design a website to teach at least 100,000 people how to be a security guard," which is specific enough to describe the intent without describing many specifics required for the execution. An entrepreneur can judge a task by how much progress it makes toward the monthly goal, leading to better project focus.

After deciding on a goal, think about or write down every new task when it appears. Break the task down into steps and break down steps into actions needed to complete the task. If a step's action cannot be imagined, then research becomes a required action for that step.

This actionable list shouldn't bog someone down. For example, the month-long task to establish online presence may require making a website, in which the following may be necessary:

Market research on successful websites
Layout designs
Develop a prototype
User testing with feedback at various stages
Graphic and UX design
Publish

By thinking in this way, CEOs and other planners should be able to see roadblocks before they appear and build in time for troubleshooting or research. Through such a practice, planners may also discover shortcuts that can aid in the parts of the process that may be lower priority than other parts that require more time to complete — e.g., using a template for the website and spending more time developing great website copy.

It should be noted that this process can be time-intensive and CEOs should never be shy to delegate that work as long as their big-picture goals are adhered to. It may be good practice for CEOs to establish the big-picture priorities and let the team managers focus on breaking down those priorities into actionable projects for the team.
