Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Triple Play Mobile Tour Travels 10,000 Miles To Inspire Health & Fitness
Motivating Youth Nationwide to Stay Fit and Healthy, Clubs' Triple Play Wellness Program Hit Major Milestone in 10th Year
ATLANTA, Sept. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Boys & Girls Clubs of America hit the road this summer in the name of health and wellness -- hosting 18 events for kids and teens across the country on the second annual Triple Play Mobile Tour. Logging more than 10,000 miles, jumping 330,000+ jumping jacks, burning more than 3 million calories, while motivating thousands of youth to get and stay active this summer, the tour kicked off in Bellevue, Wash., stopping at various Clubs across the nation before its final stop in Portland, Maine earlier this month. Inspiring kids and teens to commit to wellness – mind, body, and soul – the tour worked to make more than 10 million connections with kids, in its 10th year since the Triple Play program's inception.
Sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company and the Anthem Foundation, the tour is part of Triple Play—Boys & Girls Clubs of America's national signature health and wellness program that has been empowering youth to develop healthy, active lifestyles over the past decade. With more than three out of 10 young people considered obese or overweight, early education and active programming for youth is even more critical for a healthier tomorrow.
At each stop, the tour set up activities to help kids and teens hit the recommended goal of more than 60 minutes of physical activity a day. Fun fitness challenges included an obstacle course, a giant checkers board, corn hole, jump rope and some impromptu dance parties. Additionally, to help kids and teens get a better grasp on healthier choices all around, the tour also introduced fun and easy ways to create healthy snacks to eat on the spot and more.
Although this year's tour has made its final stop, Boys & Girls Clubs' focus on wellness continues. All year long the Triple Play program motivates Club members and area youth to be healthy by providing nutrition and health education, offering access to nutritious foods, and encouraging avoidance of risky behaviors and a lifelong commitment to fitness. There are already plans to take the Triple Play Mobile Tour on the road again in 2016 to reach even more youth and help them on their own journey to wellness.
"Boys & Girls Clubs of America believes that all kids and teens deserve a great future," said Jennifer Bateman, National Vice President of Program, Training and Youth Development Services, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. "Our organization's partnership with The Coca-Cola Company and the Anthem Foundation through the Triple Play Program has advanced Boys & Girls Clubs' efforts across the country to combat the growing rate of childhood obesity among our nation's youth, and we're looking forward to continue connecting kids and teens to wellness-focused resources and education for another 10 years and beyond."
