Boston Bruins Icon Is Featured by Dance for a Cure of Prostate Cancer in Honor of Father's Day
Derek Sanderson Rises to Arthur Murray New England and AdMeTech Foundation's Challenge to Increase Awareness and Improve Early Detection
BOSTON, June 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was issued today by AdMeTech Foundation:
WHAT: In honor of Father's Day, Derek Sanderson, a Boston Bruins Icon and Prostate Cancer Survivor appears at Arthur Murray New England and AdMeTech Foundation's Dance for a Cure of Prostate Cancer. Mr. Sanderson addresses the importance of improving early detection of prostate cancer which is critical for saving lives. This event is a highlight and a grand finale of the Arthur Murray's challenge to its students and dance studios located across New England to support AdMeTech Foundation and its mission to create Manogram™: life-saving imaging for men.
AdMeTech Foundation's Dance for a Cure is a public awareness and fundraising campaign to end the prostate cancer crisis, which strikes as many as 1 in 6 men. The magnitude of this epidemic is similar to that of breast cancer striking 1 in 8 women. However, prostate cancer awareness is lagging behind and men do not have accurate diagnostic tools akin to life-saving mammograms. An American man dies every 16 minutes, even though prostate cancer can be cured when detected early.
WHO: Dr. Faina Shtern, President of AdMeTech Foundation provides international leadership in the advancement of diagnostic tools for early detection and treatment of prostate cancer. In the 90's, she served as a Chief of the Diagnostic Imaging Research Branch at the National Cancer Institute where she led development of advanced breast cancer imaging currently accepted as a part of standard patient care (digital mammography, breast MRI, etc).
Mark Lightner, Area Chair, Arthur Murray Boston New England; Nancy Hamblet, Marketing and Operations Manager; and Kia Kenney, Manager of Arthur Murray Boston are among the key leaders of the Boston community who have consistently lent their support to AdMeTech Foundation's Dance for a Cure of Prostate Cancer. This effort is strongly supported by John Kimmins, President of Arthur Murray International, and Thomas Murdock, its Vice President.
WHERE: Boston Park Plaza Hotel
WHEN: Saturday, June 18, between 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm.
