On September 16, 2014, Reuters reported that The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (Goldman) has met with a strong response from investors for its debut sale of sukuk (Islamic bonds). According to the news report, the Company raised $500 million from the sale of five-year sukuk and became the first conventional U.S. bank to issue sukuk. The issue was over-subscribed as it received orders worth $1.5 billion. Reuters informed that Goldman priced its issue at a spread of 90 basis points over midswaps, tighter than initial guidance in the area of 95 bps. Visa Inc. Research Reports
On September 18, 2014, Visa Inc. (Visa) reported that it is undertaking an assessment of its 5.5% stake in Monitise plc (Monitise) - a UK-based mobile payment processor. Visa formed an alliance with Monitise in 2009 and also invested in Monitise as a 14.4% owner of the company. Visa said that Monitise has matured as a company over the period and therefore Visa is considering its options with respect to this investment. Under their agreement, Monitise will provide Visa with mobile platform development services through 2016. "Consistent with Visa's increased investment in our in-house capabilities, and the substantial growth in Monitise, Visa is considering its options with regard to its Monitise stake," said Bill Sheedy, Executive Vice President of Corporate Strategy, Visa. Avalonbay Communities Inc. Research Reports
On September 17, 2014, AvalonBay Communities, Inc. (AvalonBay) announced the release of its third annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) report, highlighting the Company's environmental, social and governance performance and activities during 2013. The Company said that it has pioneered the creation of energy labels for apartment homes, helping residents know the energy efficiency of their apartment homes. The Company also piloted energy usage benchmarking in 48 communities to enable more proactive decisions about building performance and maintenance needs. AvalonBay informed that it completed construction on 12 apartment communities in 2013, which will generate 297,000 kilowatt hours in electricity savings per year, deliver a 30% reduction in heating and cooling costs.
