ROCKVILLE, Md., Nov. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The September 2017 Goodwill Sale, a partnership between The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. and Goodwill Industries International, raised more than $435,000 in cash donations and collected more than 1,537,240 pounds of donations. During the September event, donors were able to drop off items at Bon-Ton stores for donation to their local Goodwill organizations in exchange for coupons that provided discounts on the purchase of new clothing, accessories and other items at Bon-Ton stores.
Now in its 23rd year, the Goodwill Sale is Goodwill's largest and longest-standing cause partnership and department store donation drive. The fall 2017 edition took place from September 13 – 30, at Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson's, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's, and Younkers stores. At 260 retail locations in 24 states, consumers had the opportunity to shop and donate locally to change local lives.
"Consumers are increasingly aware of opportunities to shop local," said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. "The semi-annual Goodwill Sale gives them an opportunity to donate local, too. The generosity of Bon-Ton customers has helped us support millions of job seekers over the past 23 years, and we look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come."
Items donated were sold at Goodwill's stores to create employment placement, job training programs and other services for people with disabilities and disadvantages, veterans and military families, older job seekers, youth and young adults, and anyone facing a difficult time finding a job or advancing in their careers. Cash donations collected at Bon-Ton stores during the sale also provided crucial support to Goodwill organizations.
"The Goodwill Sale is an opportunity for our company, as well as our customers, to make a positive impact in the lives of others," said Bill Tracy, president and CEO of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. "Bon-Ton always strives to be a good neighbor and invest in the success of every community where we operate."
