Boggs, Doyle To Receive National Planning Awards from the Society for College and University Planning
ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Community college advocate George R. Boggs and information technology professional Mary Doyle will receive the two highest awards bestowed by the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP). Boggs will receive SCUP's 2011 Founder's (Casey) Award and Doyle will receive SCUP's 2011 Distinguished Service Award.
Both will receive their award in front of an audience of 1,500 senior-level higher education administrators at SCUP–46, the society's annual, international conference and idea marketplace, July 23-27, 2011, at the Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center in National Harbor, MD.
The Founder's (Casey) Award is given for distinguished achievement in higher education planning. This award is named after K.C. Parsons, a charter member of SCUP and the society's first president from 1966-68.
Boggs, who is president and chief executive officer emeritus of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and superintendent/president emeritus of Palomar College in San Marcos, CA, is receiving the SCUP award because of his work as an ardent advocate for community colleges for more than 40 years. AACC represents more than 1,100 associate degree-granting institutions and some 12 million students in the U.S.
The SCUP Distinguished Service Award is given for exceptional contributions to the activities and success of SCUP, including its purposes, goals and mission.
Doyle, vice chancellor of information technology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, has been an active member and volunteer leader of the society since 1993. She is co-author of the book, "Technology Driven Planning: Principles to Practice," which was published by SCUP in 2000.
The annual conference, titled "Integrated Solutions: How & Now," has more than 90 concurrent sessions and workshops focused on integrating planning on campus. SCUP advocates for an open dialog among all constituencies on campus, especially academic planners, budget and resource officers, and facilities professionals. Tours of local college and university campuses will be offered during the conference. The Idea Marketplace will showcase more than 100 exhibitors and 26 poster sessions.
The conference is open only to registered attendees and news media. One-day registrations and special rates for students and retirees are available.
The early-bird registration deadline is May 6. Visit www.scup.org/page/annualconf/46/.
