CARROLLTON, Texas, Aug. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Last month, Minnie's Food Pantry in Plano, Texas, suffered a huge setback when their main freezer broke over the July 4th weekend and tens of thousands of dollars worth of meat spoiled. Blue Jay was present when the freezer was discovered and pitched in physically and financially to help with the recovery. Blue Jay Wireless, with their Give a Day efforts, volunteered valuable time and manpower to help distribute meals, and the group was on hand when it was announced that the freezer was inoperable. Blue Jay made a donation of $10,000 to help Minnie's go out and replace all that meat that was lost in the broken freezer. That volunteering effort turned out to be more of a rescue mission. The hard work of everyone involved enabled them to move boxes of dry goods, furniture and supplies away from the drainage of the freezer. The freezer was emptied out and the spoiled contents were disposed of, so the cleaning could begin.
The Blue Jay corporate office revisited Minnie's last week for a #giveaday to find the operations back in order and the Minnie's team in their typical high spirits. With the help of Blue Jay and the hunger-assisting community across the US, Minnie's has been able to fix their freezer, repair the office damage which resulted from the spoiled meat, and continue serving their local community members in need. Blue Jay is proud of the work Minnie's Food Pantry does and encourages everyone in the Blue Jay family to find out how they can assist Minnie's efforts to feed community members in need. Cheryl Jackson, Director at Minnie's, was very appreciative of all the volunteering efforts. Ms. Jackson stated, "Minnie's Food Pantry was thankful that the employees at Blue Jay Wireless scheduled a volunteer day to serve on the date of our unfortunate tragedy when our freezer failed. The employees were not afraid of hard work. They immediately took charge and helped us restore the pantry, and they donated funds to help us recoup some of our losses. Since that day, Blue Jay Wireless employees have continued to volunteer, motivate and uplift the community through service. We are thankful for this incredible partnership and we look forward to working with them in the future."
Minnie's has overcome what could have been a devastating setback, and surged forward to be that beacon of hope in the community. By continuing their support with more volunteering events at Minnie's, as well as other deserving organizations, this demonstrates Blue Jay's commitment of service to the community. Blue Jay Wireless and Minnie's Food Pantry both believe in making a difference in society.
