PALO ALTO, Calif., June 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- BloomBoard, the leading educator-focused professional development platform, and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), a national organization for leadership from state departments of education, have partnered to provide leadership development opportunities around the new National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA) standards. Principals and administrators in CCSSO's Principal Action Group will curate collections of peer-reviewed online resources aligned to the new NPBEA 2015Professional Standards for Educational Leaders to empower key stakeholders to actively engage with and interpret the new standards, and bring policy directly into practice. Education leaders nationwide seeking deep knowledge of the new standards and related practices can access these online resources anytime and in a manner that fulfills each leader's personal gaps, learning preferences, and growth needs.
Of the $1 billion in federal funds earmarked for educator professional development each year, only a small fraction goes to improving school leaders. Half of new principals leave the profession after five years, contributing to attrition rates similarly high to teacher attrition rates--a cost that is ultimately shouldered most heavily by students. With these new collections of resources, BloomBoard and CCSSO are meeting a demand expressed by school leaders everywhere for quality resources, recommended and vetted by peers, and in-line with the needs of today's students and teachers.
"Unfortunately, high-quality, personalized professional development for our school leaders is all too often absent in schools today, despite research that indicates the quality of a school leader is one of the most important drivers of student learning in a school," says BloomBoard CEO, Jason Lange. "From leading with mission and vision, to striving for equity and creating change management processes, a school leader is tasked with ensuring the safety, growth and support of every member of the school community. Their own progress shouldn't be last in line."
The goal of the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders is to make sure district and school leaders are able to improve student achievement and meet new, higher expectations. These standards influence definitions of principal and administrator effectiveness in almost every state, and the Principal Action Group will create a comprehensive set of learning collections, including articles, videos, eBooks, and other media aligned to each standard that will be available to school leaders nationwide.
Chris Minnich, executive director of CCSSO, said, "CCSSO and the members of our principal working group are pleased to partner with BloomBoard to create tools and resources that every school leader can use to put the new Professional Standards for Educational Leaders into practice. With these standards, states can help ensure district and school leaders have what they need to improve academic achievement for all kids."
