ARLINGTON, Va., May 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bloomberg BNA and Ernst & Young LLP today announced that they will host a complimentary webinar and publish a survey regarding the increasingly prevalent tax complexities involved in multistate employment. The webinar, "U.S. Cross Border Payroll Tax Considerations," will take place on Wednesday, June 10, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Immediately after the webinar, the survey will be available for all attendees to complete. Webinar registration is available here and participants can earn 1.5 RCH credits. Copies of the survey report will be provided to all webinar attendees once it is available.
"The United States is one of the most challenging countries for businesses to manage payroll taxes across jurisdictions," said Mike Baer, the managing editor of Bloomberg BNA's Payroll Library and International Payroll Decision Support Network. "Our webinar and survey with Ernst & Young will address the many complexities associated with state taxation of multistate employment — including the employment of nonresident aliens and provide actionable intelligence to manage the risks so employers can be better positioned to meet their many obligations."
"In the U.S. and across the globe, the question is no longer if businesses should comply with multistate employment tax requirements, but how," said Kristie Lowery, a principal at Ernst & Young LLP who specializes in US multistate employment tax. "Today's enforcement landscape has changed dramatically by a rise in the consequences, materiality and risks of nonresident income tax compliance gaps. Once a footnote in payroll discussions, the topic of U.S. multistate employment tax has made headlines and reached boardrooms."
Webinar panelists will include experienced Ernst & Young LLP state and local payroll tax professionals as well as revenue examiners with the audit division of the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services.
Topics discussed by panelists will include:
- U.S. nonresident alien, state and local onboarding considerations, including withholding allowance and exemption certificates
- Reporting registration and status changes for unemployment insurance and income tax withholding
- Income tax withholding calculations for multistate employees
- Sourcing, apportionment and trailing compensation rules
- State and local tax payment and reporting requirements
- Audit flags and risks
- State enforcement trends
- Company policy considerations for short-term business travelers
- Benchmarking and measuring compliance and performance
Upon completion of the webinar, Bloomberg BNA and Ernst & Young LLP will launch a survey allowing participants to see how other businesses approach multistate payroll tax compliance in several key areas. All survey responses are anonymous and results will be available free of charge to all who participate once they are compiled in the survey report.
Webinar registration is available here.
