On the evening of Friday, July 20, Bloggers Night Out, a network of bloggers who cover fashion, gathered more than 75 colleagues on the rooftop of the Betsy Hotel to discuss the latest trends and to learn more about plastics and fashion. Bloggers at the event perused eco-chic swimsuits made with fabrics derived from recycled plastic bottles, colorful recycled-plastic flip-flops and sunglasses, lightweight and cool clothing for sizzling days and nights, and other summer fashions made with plastics.
Recycled-plastic fabrics and accessories give new life to bottles and packaging that might otherwise end up in landfills—and the plastics are durable enough to last through seasons of sun, sand, and sweat.
At the event, Plastics Make it Possible® teamed up with DIY expert Jenni Radosevich of I Spy DIY, who teaches fashion lovers how to create today's trends at home. She hosted a "DIY Corner" at the event and helped bloggers create unique, personalized tote bags with plastic fabrics and materials. "When creating DIY projects, I love working with plastics because of their versatility and array of textures," Radosevich said. "Plastics pieces can be paired with most wardrobe staples to spruce up any ensemble and make it on-trend."
Miami-area bloggers Erika Thomas of Blah Blah Blonde, Ria Michelle of Ria Michelle—A Fashion Diary, and Kelly Saks of Kelly's Kloset were also on hand to create on-trend summer looks from clothing and accessories made with plastics.
"Using recycled plastics in clothing—including summer beachwear—is a growing fashion trend and a way to do something good for your wardrobe and the environment," said Jennifer Killinger, Senior Director of Sustainability & Public Outreach at the American Chemistry Council, which sponsors Plastics Make it Possible®. "The fashion world has embraced recycled-plastic fabrics and accessories, so it's now common to find them at mainstream retailers."
Fashion fans can enter for a chance to win a $250 gift card from Plastics Make it Possible®—while having a bit of fun creating stylish summer looks using on-trend plastic pieces. Visit the interactive site at http://plasticsmakeitpossible.com/fashion to enter.
