Award-winning Blink Named a CES 2016 Innovation Award Honoree
BOSTON, Nov. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Blink, one of Kickstarter's top technology campaigns in 2014 with nearly 7,000 enthusiastic backers and over $1M in pledges, has raised an additional $5.8 million from private investors, as the ultra-affordable, totally wire-free battery-powered HD home monitoring and alert system enters production, following a successful Beta release.
In addition, Blink is proud to announce it has been named a 2016 CES Innovation Awards Honoree in the Smart Home category. Products entered into this prestigious program, administered by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®), are judged by an expert panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the consumer electronics trade media. CES Innovation Honorees reflect innovative design and engineering in some of the most cutting edge tech products and services coming to market.
Blink's Kickstarter campaign and subsequent pre-order program caught the eye of several supply chain partners, who took note of its exceptional product attributes and unique position in the marketplace, and invested in the product. To date, approximately $6.8 million has been raised in support of Blink's entry into the burgeoning U.S. DIY smart home market, which is forecasted to grow from $1.28 billion in 2014 to nearly $7.8 billion by 2019. "We're proud to welcome several of Blink's supply chain partners as investors in the product, a validation of our relationship-based approach to product development," said Peter Besen, CEO of Immedia, the company behind the home monitor and its unique technology. "Their collaboration and input ensures that we can deliver the product more quickly and efficiently. The system design has also benefited from feedback from the Blink community. We're confident that the final product will fill an unmet need for those who are in the market for a DIY home monitoring system that offers not just peace of mind, but also unprecedented placement flexibility, at a price well below that of comparable systems."
Blink's comprehensive feature set includes motion-based video alerts and Live View. The system is designed to appeal to budget-minded consumers, with limited-time pre-order pricing starting at just $79 for a one-camera system. A whole-home, five-camera system is $289.
"Blink is a one-of-a-kind product in the smart home marketplace, and arrives at the perfect time to enter the growing DIY home monitoring market," said K.P. Lai, Marketing Director, Easerich Industrial Ltd. "We are proud to be playing an integral part in Blink's future success, as both a supply chain partner and as an investor in the company."
"We have been working very closely with the Blink team to roll out their state-of-the-art Blink camera chip technology that offers unmatched price performance, extremely fast capture and superior user experience in all conditions," said Gordon Ao, CEO of Innosilicon. "This is just the beginning; we look forward to continuing our partnership and to creating new and innovative market leading products."
Also investing in this round are venture investment firms Baker Capital and Dot Capital, both headquartered in New York City.
"We are quite impressed with the highly unique IP that underlies Blink's product differentiation and competitive advantage," says John Baker, Chairman of Baker Capital. "Plus we're very excited to partner again with a strong team with whom we've had great success in the past."
