Beyond Lucid Technologies Advances Telemedicine for EMS Providers
Together with Microsoft, Team Presents Best Practices for Ambulance Communication with Hospitals
WALNUT CREEK, Calif., Dec. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Beyond Lucid Technologies, Inc., a healthcare IT startup serving the emergency medical, disaster management, and First Response industries, today announced the launch of its MediView™ software platform at the mHealth Summit, and the publication of a first-of-its-kind white paper surveying technologies currently available to connect ambulances with hospitals via telemedicine.
MediView™ allows First Responders to relay real-time patient data to the destination hospital as it is collected, reducing paperwork, eliminating the risk of missing critical information as the patient is transferred from ambulance to the emergency department, and saving precious time. Most important in an emergency is the "golden hour" that follows an injury, auto accident, heart attack, stroke or other critical condition. Giving First Responders a way to move patient data seamlessly and reliably from the patient's side to the next level in the medical care chain within that hour will decrease time-to-treatment, eliminate the risk of medical errors due to missing information, and ultimately save lives.
The study white paper, called "Improving Efficiency in Health: Emergency Medical Systems," was co-authored by Jonathon Feit, Co-Founder and CEO of Beyond Lucid Technologies, and Randy Fusco, CTO, of U.S. Health Providers Solutions at Microsoft. It is a unique observational study based upon visits to regions chronically subject to disasters such as hurricanes, wildfires, blizzards and earthquakes; and interviews with military medical personnel and public safety officials in regions known for excellence in First Response.
"Telemedicine represents the next wave in a healthcare IT revolution that stretches from the bedside to the ambulance, into the hospital, the courtroom and the C-suite," said Mr. Feit. "The research that led up to this collaborative white paper was designed to understand how putting technology in medics' hands will help doctors know what's wrong with their patients before their arrival at the emergency department, which in turn will help hospitals mobilize resources for faster, more efficient, and more cost-effective treatments. We're honored that Microsoft has seen our technology's disruptive potential. By working with such a respected industry leader, and leveraging its cloud-based solutions, we can improve emergency healthcare worldwide, lower healthcare costs, and increase access to emergency are, and saving countless lives in the process."
According to Randy Fusco, who served as an emergency medical technician and medical service specialist in the United States Air Force prior to joining Microsoft: "Beyond Lucid Technologies leveraged the Microsoft BizSpark program for startup businesses to fast track a great idea into a solution focused on delivering efficiencies in emergency medicine. Their MediView™ Mobile platform provides a highly integrated, scalable architecture and a set of solutions that emergency departments can implement in the area of public safety."
"Making the right choice among various technologies is essential if hospitals are to meet today's challenges and prepare a solid foundation for the future," said Mr. Fusco. "Built on the Microsoft platform, Beyond Lucid Technologies' MediView™ platform can play an important role in helping healthcare systems achieve patient safety missions by empowering emergency departments and EMS workers to provide for safer communities."
